What we do is aim to improve the quality of life for the residents of Caerphilly Borough, who are over 50. We assess and provide feedback on changes proposed by national and local governments that will affect our older residents. We challenge constructively such changes if they could have a negative impact. Our Chair is the vice chair of the Cymru Older People’s Alliance. This has allowed us to make significant contributions to advocating the need to engage older people and support 50+ Forums. We have strongly supported the Older People’s Commissioner programme of developing Age-Friendly Communities.

An independent, voluntary organisation representing the welfare and interests of older residents of Caerphilly Borough.
Involvement, Scrutiny, and Comment
Caerphilly Over 50 works closely with the Local Authority (LA). These are links to examples of where we have worked together.

We also support and work with Cymru Older People’s Alliance (COPA) and have access to The Older People’s Commissioner and the Deputy Minister of Social Services.
We will make sure that both local and national governments hear the voices of older people in our borough.
Our officers scrutinise and publish comments on plans proposed by the LA. Then we comment on the published plan, particularly on how they will measure performance. Throughout, we monitor if the plans are successful.
Age-Friendly Communities (AFCs)
The title effectively describes what they are. It is the responsibility of the Local Authority (LA) to become part of the Age-Friendly Community family. Caerphilly Over 50 sits on the AFC Steering Committee, led by the LA. Our major role is currently to challenge the LA to be ambitious to “Engage” in the initial process.
An Age-Friendly Community develops lasting relationships with people, groups, and communities. Organisations work together to develop activities or projects from the outset. This goes beyond “Involving” to coproduction. It is
transparent.
Caerphilly Over50 wants to work with our members. We will develop ideas to take forward to the LA Steering Committee.
